Jakarta, 30 October 2025 – Jakarta State University (UNJ) is increasingly serious about realizing its vision as a sustainable campus by affirming its commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2045. This ambitious effort includes a drastic reduction in dependence on coal and oil-based energy, which is explicitly stated in the Healthy Campus Management Guidelines (Rector's Decree No. 1637/UN39/HK.02/2025) and UNJ's Strategic Plan (Renstra). 2025–2029.

The UNJ Healthy Campus Guidelines, which were recently approved on 3 October 2025, are a strategic basis for the entire academic community in internalizing a culture of healthy living, environmentally friendly and responsible for sustainability. This document comprehensively outlines UNJ's various concrete steps in the transition towards clean and efficient energy.

Strategic Steps Towards Net Zero Emissions:

Utilization of Renewable Energy: UNJ is committed to increasing the share of renewable energy in meeting its energy needs. This is realized through the installation of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) in various campus buildings, as well as studies of the potential for wind and biomass energy for future development. UNJ's long-term target is that at least 20% of campus electricity consumption comes from renewable energy. Energy Decarbonization: As one of the strategic pillars, energy decarbonization will be carried out intensively. Apart from rooftop PLTS and solar farms, UNJ will implement energy savings through the use of sensors, timers, LED lights and AC inverters. The use of clean energy from the grid will also be optimized wherever possible. Reducing Fossil Fuels and Green Transport: UNJ will actively reduce the use of fossil fuels. One of the flagship programs is the development of low-emission transportation, including the provision of campus bicycles, electric shuttles, and a limited parking policy for private vehicles. Incentives for the use of public transportation and carpooling will also be promoted to encourage changes in the mobility behavior of academics. Optimizing Energy Consumption with Smart Buildings: Implementation of Smart Buildings is an important part of the Energy and Climate Change strategy. Smart building energy management systems, such as BAS (Building Automation System) and IBMS (Integrated Building Management System), will be implemented to optimize electricity consumption in buildings, laboratories, air conditioning and lighting. Environmentally Friendly Procurement: UNJ's sustainability commitment is also reflected in the procurement policy for goods and services. UNJ will prioritize purchasing energy-efficient and low-emission equipment, in line with green standards for new buildings and retrofits.

Impact and Benefits:

UNJ's commitment towards Net Zero Emissions 2045 not only supports Indonesia's national target in mitigating climate change, but also strengthens UNJ's position in international rankings such as UI GreenMetric World University Rankings and QS World Ranking University: Sustainability. In addition, this effort will create a healthier, more comfortable and productive campus environment for the entire academic community, as well as becoming a living laboratory for the development of green technology innovations that are applicable to the wider community.

UNJ Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Komarudin, M.Si, in the Chancellor's Decree emphasized, "These guidelines are not only the basis for policy, but also the direction of joint movement for the entire academic community in internalizing a culture of healthy living in the campus environment. With strong cooperation and collaboration, we are confident that the big aspirations towards a healthy campus and the Net Zero Emission 2045 Program can be realized, for the sake of a healthier generation and a better future for the nation."

With strategic steps that are structured and fully supported by university leadership, UNJ is optimistic that it can become a pioneer in the transformation towards a completely carbon neutral and sustainable campus in Indonesia.
