Jakarta, 30 October 2025 – Jakarta State University (UNJ) shows real commitment in the transition towards a sustainable campus and the Net Zero Emission target by 2045. This is further strengthened by the inauguration of two UNJ SFD project buildings by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) which carries the concept of Smart and Green Building.

These buildings are designed with a high energy efficiency system through the use of natural lighting, intelligent ventilation, solar panels (PLTS), as well as the integration of an IBMS BAS-based energy management system. This step is not only a symbol of environmentally friendly architectural innovation, but also a learning model for academics in applying the principles of clean energy and efficiency. With a target of 100% renewable energy, UNJ strengthens its role as a pioneer university in green education in Indonesia that combines technology, policy and environmental awareness in one sustainable vision.

UNJ's commitment is in line with the Decree of the Chancellor of the State University of Jakarta Number 1637/UN39/HK.02/2025 concerning Guidelines for Managing a Healthy Campus at the State University of Jakarta. This document explicitly outlines "CHAPTER IV UNJ'S STRATEGY TOWARDS NET ZERO EMISSION" which includes the university's commitment to achieving this target by 2045 [1, p. 33].

The strategies promoted by UNJ to achieve Net Zero Emissions include energy decarbonization, low-emission transportation, waste management, green building, as well as education and involvement of the academic community [1, p. 38]. One of the strategic pillars is the installation of rooftop solar farms and solar farms, as well as saving energy through the use of sensors, timers, LEDs and AC inverters [1, p. 38]. This supports UNJ's vision which views that campus environmental management must be carried out responsibly, adaptively and sustainably, in order to maintain a balance between the needs of the current generation and responsibilities towards future generations [1, p. 16].

The strategic steps implemented by UNJ, as stated in the chancellor's decision document, include strengthening environmental policies and management, use of renewable energy, energy efficiency and waste management, environmentally friendly mobility, as well as education and awareness [1, p. 37]. Thus, the inauguration of the Smart and Green Building which is equipped with solar panels is a concrete manifestation of UNJ's commitment to reducing the use of electricity from non-renewable sources and increasing the proportion of renewable energy, in line with the success indicators that have been established in managing a healthy campus [1, p. 92].

Through the collaborative efforts of the entire academic community and consistent policy support, UNJ is expected to be able to become an innovative and sustainable campus that makes a real contribution to global climate change efforts, as well as becoming a national example in the transformation towards a carbon neutral campus.
