Jakarta, 30 November 2020 – Jakarta State University (UNJ) is increasingly demonstrating its strong commitment to environmental management and reducing carbon emissions through the UNJ Healthy, Environmentally Friendly Campus Management Guidelines. This document, which was ratified through the Decree of the Chancellor of the State University of Jakarta Number 1269/uN39/TM.01.02/2020, is a strategic basis for UNJ to achieve the 2045 Net Zero Emission target and strengthen its position in international rankings such as UI GreenMetric.

This guideline clearly outlines the various structured and measurable steps taken by UNJ in an effort to create a clean, cool, comfortable and sustainable campus environment. Some concrete evidence of UNJ's commitment to managing and reducing carbon emissions includes:

Periodic Energy and Emission Audits: UNJ regularly carries out energy and emissions audits to identify sources of pollution and high energy consumption in the campus environment. This allows UNJ to formulate targeted emission reduction strategies. Energy Decarbonization: Energy decarbonization efforts are a priority with the installation of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) and the conversion of conventional lamps to more energy-efficient LED lamps throughout campus facilities. This step significantly reduces dependence on fossil energy.Integrated Waste Management: This guideline emphasizes integrated waste management through reduce, reuse, recycle and compost programs. Sorting of organic, inorganic waste, as well as hazardous and toxic (B3) waste is carried out according to standard operational procedures, and UNJ has a plan for processing campus waste, including liquid waste so that it does not pollute water bodies. Green Transportation: To reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector, UNJ encourages the use of environmentally friendly transportation such as bicycles and electric vehicles. This policy also includes providing access to low-emission mass transportation and limiting the use of private vehicles on campus. Continuous Monitoring and Evaluation: The progress of the Healthy, Environmentally Friendly Campus program, including efforts to reduce carbon emissions, is monitored regularly through digital dashboards and annual reporting. Evaluation is carried out based on UI GreenMetric criteria which include Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, and Education and Research. This monitoring and evaluation process is not only carried out internally, but also involves an independent team from the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Education and Culture.

This document shows that UNJ is not only committed to reducing carbon emissions, but has also developed a structured, measurable and integrated strategy with the Healthy Campus program. This holistic approach includes aspects of policy, infrastructure, education, and collaboration with the entire academic community to achieve the Net Zero Emission 2045 target and supports international rankings such as UI GreenMetric.

The Chancellor of UNJ, Komarudin, S.Pd., M.A., Ph.D., who signed this decision, emphasized that "These guidelines are a concrete manifestation of UNJ's responsibility as a higher education institution to be an example in preserving the environment. We believe that with the active participation of the entire academic community, UNJ can create a campus that is healthy, environmentally friendly, and makes a real contribution to overcoming the issue of global climate change."

It is hoped that the steps taken by UNJ will be an inspiration for other educational institutions to participate in global efforts to maintain environmental sustainability and reduce the impact of climate change.
