JAKARTA, [30 October 2025] – Jakarta State University (UNJ) has again demonstrated its strong commitment to environmental sustainability by successfully retiring 776 Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from the Bakaru Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) project on 20 June 2025. This achievement, which was certified by APX, Inc. through the TIGR Registry, is clear evidence of UNJ's structured steps in achieving the Net Zero Emission target by 2045.

The retirement of RECs is not just a formality, but an integral part of UNJ's comprehensive strategy in systematically managing and reducing carbon emissions. Various initiatives have been launched to realize the vision of a Healthy and Sustainable Campus, including:

Periodic Energy & Emission Audits: UNJ regularly conducts energy and emissions audits to identify major sources of pollution and design targeted solutions.Energy Decarbonization: Energy decarbonization efforts continue to be promoted through the installation of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) and conversion to LED lights throughout the campus area, reducing dependence on fossil energy.Integrated Waste Management: UNJ implements an integrated waste management system that includes recycling and composting, minimizing waste that ends up in landfill.Green Transportation: To reduce the footprint carbon from transportation activities, UNJ provides electric shuttles and imposes restrictions on private vehicles on campus.

The progress of all these programs is closely monitored through digital dashboards and annual reports, ensuring that every step is in line with the Net Zero Emission 2045 target. This TIGR RECs retirement document confirms that UNJ is not only focused on reducing carbon emissions, but has also formulated a strategy that is structured, measurable and integrated with the Healthy Campus program.

The holistic approach implemented by UNJ includes aspects of policy, infrastructure, education and collaboration. It is hoped that this effort will not only bring UNJ to achieve the 2045 Net Zero Emission target, but also support international rankings such as UI GreenMetric, which assesses universities' commitment to environmental sustainability. With these concrete steps, UNJ has proven itself to be a pioneer in creating a greener and more sustainable campus environment.
