Jakarta, 30 October 2025 – Jakarta State University (UNJ) officially confirmed its commitment to sustainable development and the 2045 Net Zero Emission target through the stipulation of Jakarta State University Chancellor's Decree Number 1637/UN39/HK.02/2025 concerning Guidelines for Healthy Campus Management at Jakarta State University. This regulation is a strategic basis for UNJ to integrate the principles of health and environmental sustainability in all aspects of campus governance, including building infrastructure policies.

One of the important points raised in this guideline is the implementation of strict energy efficiency standards in every renovation and construction of new buildings within UNJ. This policy not only responds to the initiatives of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the Healthy Campus program, but is also in line with UNJ's efforts to meet international ranking indicators such as UI GreenMetric, QS World Ranking University: Sustainability, and Times Higher Education.

According to the guidance document, UNJ is committed to adopting a holistic approach in realizing ecological sustainability. This is realized through environmentally friendly campus facility design, efficiency in energy and water use, and wise waste management. "The campus is not only a place where academic activities take place, but also acts as a green space that supports quality of life and environmental preservation," reads one quote in the guidelines (page 16).

The strategic steps towards Net Zero Emissions outlined in Chapter IV of this guideline explicitly mention "Green Building" as one of the main pillars. The UNJ established “Green standards for new & retrofit buildings” as well as “Natural ventilation & cooling efficiency” as concrete efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the building sector (page 38). This shows that UNJ is not only focused on operational efficiency, but also on selecting sustainable building materials and designs from the early stages.

This policy is strengthened by the existence of measurable achievement targets. In the aspect of energy and climate change, UNJ targets reducing electricity consumption from non-renewable sources by ≥5% per year and increasing the proportion of renewable energy by at least 10% per year. The installation of solar panels, LED lights and automatic sensors is targeted to be installed in ≥80% of the campus area (page 92).

With this policy, UNJ not only confirms its position as an academically superior educational institution, but also as a pioneer in implementing sustainable practices that are in line with government regulations and global standards. It is hoped that the implementation of energy efficiency standards in campus infrastructure can become a real example for other institutions and the wider community in supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals in Indonesia.
