Jakarta, 30 October 2024 – Jakarta State University (UNJ) is increasingly demonstrating its commitment to supporting sustainability and energy efficiency, especially in every renovation activity and construction of new buildings on campus. This policy cannot be separated from the basis of government regulations, including Government Regulation Number 31 of 2024 concerning State Universities as Legal Entities, Jakarta State University.

The transformation of UNJ into a Legal Entity State University (PTNBH) on 14 August 2024 provides more flexibility in managing academics, finances and human resources [1, page 2]. This status also encourages UNJ to carry out a more independent institutional governance transformation, including implementing stricter energy efficiency standards.

In the UNJ 2025-2029 Strategic Plan document, it is clear that the development of facilities and infrastructure is the main concern. One example is the construction of four new tower buildings financed by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) and one educational character development center building, which is expected to be completed by 2024 [1, pages 19-20]. Although the document has not explicitly detailed energy efficiency standards for this development, UNJ's commitment to becoming a world-class university that excels in the fields of education, science, technology and humanities [1, page 52] inherently includes the implementation of sustainable practices.

The application of energy efficiency standards in renovation and new construction activities at UNJ can be integrated with the focus of the Good Governance development framework. This includes the development of an IT-based governance system for the smart campus and application integration through Single Sign-On (SSO) which will significantly increase operational efficiency [1, page 61]. Apart from that, curriculum innovation based on greening education and the development of integrated laboratory facilities [1, pages 65-67] will also support energy efficiency efforts.

Although the UNJ 2025-2029 Strategic Plan document does not yet include specific targets related to energy efficiency in renovation and construction, the existing development framework provides a strong foundation. With PTNBH status and the vision of becoming a world-class university, UNJ is expected to continue to align its internal policies with government regulations that support sustainable development and energy efficiency, as mandated in macro assumptions related to inflation rates, economic growth and world oil prices which also influence funding planning [1, page 108].

In the future, it is hoped that UNJ will continue to prioritize innovation and adaptation to rapid and dynamic changes in the external environment, including energy efficiency practices, in order to create a campus that is not only superior academically but also
