Jakarta, December 2024 – Jakarta State University (UNJ) continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability through systematic monitoring and management of waste generation throughout the campus area, including food waste, paper and general solid waste.

Based on data on waste transportation and disposal collected by the university's facilities and cleanliness unit, UNJ consistently records the total weight of waste collected every month. Waste is transported using large capacity trucks (11 m³) with an estimated load of around 1,650 kg per trip. Monthly details for 2024 are as follows:

Apart from general waste, UNJ also recorded the generation of 2,205 kg of paper waste originating from the archive and document digitization program throughout 2024. Most of this waste came from administrative and academic units that converted printed archives to digital form, with each sack weighing between 20-50 kg.

Through this monitoring system, UNJ actively measures and records the amount of waste produced in the campus environment, including food waste and general waste. Waste collection is carried out by third party cleaning service providers who are required to submit regular reports regarding waste volume.

Overall, UNJ's total waste generation in 2024 will reach 79,755 kg, consisting of:

77,550 kg of general solid waste (including organic materials, packaging, plastic, tissue and other mixtures), as well as 2,205 kg of paper waste from archive digitization activities.

This data is the basis for UNJ's waste reduction strategy, such as separating waste from the source, reducing food waste in the canteen, as well as sustainable digital transformation to minimize paper use.

Through transparent and consistent monitoring, UNJ reaffirms its dedication to developing sustainable campus management and supporting Indonesia's national environmental goals.
