13.2 Low carbon energy use
Low-carbon energy use refers to the utilization of energy sources that produce minimal greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to climate change mitigation and sustainable campus operations.
1.1 13.2.1 - Does your university as a body measure the amount of low carbon energy used across the university?
Universitas Negeri Jakarta measured total campus energy consumption of 943,019 kWh, of which 943.019 kWh (≈0.1%) originated from low-carbon sources, a quantitative result that indicates a nascent and quantitatively modest level of low-carbon integration at the campus scale. The university’s evidence-based implementation strategy combines peer-reviewed research dissemination, primarily via Jurnal Konversi Energi dan Manufaktur, which publishes applied studies on renewable systems and capacity-building forums such as the national seminar “Renewable Energy and Philosophy of Geography” (hybrid format, >350 participants), has produced measurable scholarly outputs and stakeholder engagement, but the ~0.1% low-carbon share is negligible; therefore, substantial expansion of renewable infrastructure and systematic translation of research into campus energy policy are required to meet SDG-13 mitigation and resilience goals.

13.3 Environmental education measures
Environmental education measures refer to institutional efforts that integrate environmental awareness, sustainability values, and climate action literacy into academic curricula, research, and community engagement to foster responsible environmental behavior.
2.1 13.3.1 - Does your university as a body provide local education programmes or campaigns on climate change risks, impacts, mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning?
Universitas Negeri Jakarta implements local education and community programmes—including the 2024 Model Kurikulum Rekonstruksi Sosial – Ecopesantren, P2M training converting plastic waste into saleable crafts, Kampung Iklim socialization in Muara Gembong, and mangrove/organic-waste valorisation initiatives. Delivered by university research teams and faculty-coordinated P2M/PKM programmes through hybrid outreach with stakeholders and schools, these activities translate academic findings into on-site training and participatory implementation. Documentary evidence—the 2024 ecopesantren curriculum, P2M training records, and Kampung Iklim reports—shows measurable knowledge transfer and capacity building that support SDG-13, with the ecopesantren curriculum representing a notable UNJ best practice for localizing climate education.

2.2 13.3.4 - Does your university as a body inform and support local or regional government in local climate change disaster/risk early warning and monitoring?
Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) conducted disaster mitigation education and early warning system training using geospatial information for students at SMAN 1 Babakan Madang, Bogor, in collaboration with BRIN and the Government of Japan. This activity was implemented through community-based workshops led by UNJ’s disaster education team, involving local schools and regional authorities to enhance preparedness for earthquakes and other climate-related hazards. The measurable impact includes improved disaster awareness and practical early warning competencies among school communities, contributing directly to local climate risk reduction capacity. This initiative aligns with SDG 13 (Climate Action) by strengthening adaptive capacity and disaster risk education at the community level. UNJ’s best practice lies in integrating academic expertise with intergovernmental collaboration to support local early warning systems through participatory and technology-based learning.
