SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Our Goals in Action (2024)
University measures towards affordable and clean energy
Jakarta State University (UNJ) is committed to promoting the use of affordable and clean energy as part of its sustainability agenda. The university has taken several measures to reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources and to increase energy efficiency across campus facilities.
Some key initiatives include the installation of solar panels in selected buildings, the use of energy-efficient LED lighting, and the implementation of automatic power control systems to minimize electricity waste. UNJ also encourages the academic community to adopt energy-saving behaviors through awareness campaigns and environmental education programs.
These actions reflect UNJ’s dedication to supporting the transition toward clean and affordable energy, while fostering a culture of sustainability among students, staff, and lecturers.

7.2.3 Does your university as a body have a process for carbon management and reducing carbon dioxide emissions?
UNJ manages and reduces carbon emissions through a structured process. Evidence includes: regular energy and emission audits to identify pollution sources; energy decarbonization through the installation of solar power systems and conversion to LED lighting; integrated waste management with recycling and composting initiatives; and green transportation such as electric shuttles and restrictions on private vehicles. Progress is monitored through a digital dashboard and annual reporting to ensure the achievement of the Net Zero Emission 2045 target. This document demonstrates UNJ’s strong commitment to carbon reduction through a structured, measurable, and integrated strategy aligned with the Healthy Campus Program. The holistic approach encompasses policy, infrastructure, education, and collaboration aspects to achieve Net Zero Emission 2045 and support international sustainability rankings such as UI GreenMetric.

Energy and the community
Jakarta State University (UNJ) actively engages with the surrounding community to promote awareness and education about energy conservation and the use of clean energy. Through community service programs, workshops, and student projects, UNJ collaborates with local residents to introduce practical ways to save energy and utilize renewable energy sources.
The university also integrates energy education into research and outreach activities, encouraging innovation in sustainable energy solutions that benefit both the campus and the community. By sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration, UNJ contributes to building an energy-conscious society and supporting the global transition toward clean and sustainable energy.

7.4.2 Does your university as a body promote a public pledge toward 100% renewable energy (petitions, meetings, discussions, events) beyond the university?
UNJ’s pledge to achieve 100% renewable energy underscores its strong dedication to sustainability and aligns with Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission 2045 agenda. The inauguration of two Smart and Green Building SFD project facilities by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology demonstrates this vision in action. These buildings incorporate advanced sustainable technologies—such as rooftop solar power (PLTS), intelligent ventilation, natural lighting systems, and energy management through BAS IBMS—to minimize reliance on fossil-based energy. Beyond improving efficiency, they serve as practical learning spaces for students and faculty to explore clean energy solutions. This initiative positions UNJ as a national leader in green education, integrating innovation, policy, and environmental awareness to foster a low-carbon academic ecosystem and drive progress toward a fully renewable campus.

7.4.4 Does your university as a body inform and support government in clean energy and energy-efficient technology policy development?
Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) continues to strengthen its commitment to energy efficiency and the transition toward clean energy by optimizing electricity use and adopting renewable energy sources such as solar panels. This initiative aligns with the UI GreenMetric indicators, which assess campus sustainability through energy and climate change criteria. A concrete example of this effort is the construction of the SFD Building, designed with the concept of Green Energy and Clean Energy. The building not only utilizes energy-efficient technologies and natural lighting systems but also integrates solar panels to supply part of its electricity needs. This strategic initiative reaffirms UNJ’s position as a pioneer of environmentally friendly campuses—one that not only focuses on energy efficiency but also contributes directly to carbon emission reduction and the achievement of Net Zero Emission 2045.
