SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being
Our Goals in Action (2024)
Collaborations and health service
In the heart of endlessly pulsating Jakarta, the State University of Jakarta (UNJ) stands not as an ivory tower, but as an actively connected hub. The health and well-being of the campus community—students, lecturers, and staff—is not merely an internal responsibility, but a collaborative mission. This is the essence of "Collaborations and Health Service": a philosophy that comprehensive health services can only be achieved when a university opens its arms, forges partnerships, and builds bridges to a broader health ecosystem.
Student Health Unit (UKM): The Networked Front Line
The Student Health Unit (UKM) at UNJ is not just a clinic. It is a dynamic hub. Here, collaboration is its lifeblood. Every year, thousands of new students are welcomed with orientation programs that check not only their physical health but also their mental well-being through initial screening and counseling. However, its true strength lies in the network it weaves.
* Partnerships with Hospitals and Community Health Centers (Puskesmas): UNJ has a strong network with leading health institutions in Jakarta, from the Pasar Minggu Regional General Hospital to local Puskesmas. This collaboration enables quick and integrated referrals. If a student requires special treatment beyond the UKM's capacity, a green lane has been mapped to ensure continuous care without obstacles.
* Synergy with the Health Office: In matters of vaccination, disease prevention, or national health campaigns (such as World AIDS Day or Mental Health Day), UNJ becomes a strategic partner for the DKI Jakarta Health Office. The campus transforms into a mass vaccination center or outreach hub, where government health workers and the UKM team work shoulder-to-shoulder to educate and protect the university family.
*Smart Collaborations: When Health Touches Various Fields
The strength of UNJ's approach lies in its ability to unite different disciplines for one goal: health.
* Faculty of Sports Science (FIK) and Physical Health: The most natural collaboration. Sports science experts from FIK not only conduct research but also actively design fitness programs, lead mass exercise sessions, and provide movement consultations to prevent injuries and degenerative diseases among the academic community. It is the perfect marriage of theory and practice.
* Faculty of Psychology (FPsi) and Mental Health: In facing academic and social pressures, counseling services alone are no longer enough. FPsi and UKM collaborate to hold "Mental Health Awareness" workshops, stress resilience training, and deeper psychological services. Together, they build a support system to ensure no student struggles alone in silence.
* Partnerships with NGOs and Corporations: UNJ is open to cooperating with NGOs like the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in organizing blood drives, or with pharmaceutical and health companies in providing free health check-up services. These collaborations enrich resources and expand the reach of services.
*Tangible Impact: Creating a Living, Breathing Environment
The impact of this collaboration is felt in the daily pulse of the campus:
1. Comprehensive Services: Students don't just get medicine for a fever; they also get access to nutritional counseling, physical therapy, and mental health support.
2. Sustainable Education: The campus becomes a living health education space. Every seminar, workshop, and campaign is a result of collaboration with field experts, ensuring the information provided is accurate and up-to-date.
3. A Caring Community: With a strong network in place, a sense of collective security is created. Everyone knows that behind them, there is a system ready to support them, both in sickness and in health prevention efforts.
"Collaborations and Health Service" at UNJ is ultimately not just about curing illness. It is about empowerment and humanization. It is a commitment to creating a campus ecosystem that not only produces intelligent scientists and educators but also healthy, resilient human beings who understand the importance of collaboration.
UNJ understands that in this interconnected era, health is a shared duty. And by building strong partnerships, UNJ not only safeguards the health of its community but also actively contributes to building a healthier Indonesian society, starting from its own campus environment.

3.3.1 Does your university as a body have current collaborations with local, national or global health institutions to improve health & wellbeing outcomes?
UNJ contributes significantly to achieving SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through diverse initiatives at local, national, and international levels. Locally, the Faculty of Sports Science (FIKK) provides health check-ups and consultations to promote healthy lifestyles, while the Faculty of Psychology strengthens student mental well-being through the UNJ Care counseling program. Nationally, UNJ developed the Smart Anthropometry innovation to monitor child nutrition digitally and collaborates with the Palopo Sports Committee to advance sport science in South Sulawesi. Internationally, UNJ expands its global engagement through guest lectures on mental health, international community service with ALPTKNI and the Indonesian Consulate in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and women’s empowerment programs promoting well-being and quality of life.

3.3.2 Does your university as a body deliver outreach programmes and projects in the local community to improve or promote health & wellbeing ?
UNJ actively implements community engagement programs that promote health and well-being across Indonesia. Initiatives include mental health education for adolescents in Pasir Tanjung, drug abuse prevention training for children in Medalsari, and nutrition and health literacy campaigns for the general public. In collaboration with the Indramayu Youth and Sports Office, UNJ also trains coaches and supports the development of regional athletes. Through innovations like the Online Child Growth Monitoring System (KMS Online), communities can track children’s growth digitally. Additional programs such as inclusive education training for teachers, early childhood musicality development, and motivation workshops for Islamic boarding school students demonstrate UNJ’s strong commitment to improving physical, mental, and social well-being through educational and sustainable community-based initiatives.

3.3.3 Does your university as a body share sports facilities with the local community, for instance with local schools or with the general public?
"UNJ consistently provides access to its sports facilities to the public as part of its commitment to achieving SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being. Managed by the BPU UNJ (https://bpu.unj.ac.id/gedung-olahraga-unj/), facilities such as the internationally standard Gymnasium , stadium, outdoor fields, petanque courts, badminton courts, and fitness center are available not only to the university community but also to the general public, schools, and national sports institutions. One notable event is the 58th Anniversary of UNJ, during which a “Sports Festival” was organized, involving students, lecturers, staff, and the surrounding community to promote a healthy lifestyle and togetherness. Through these activities, UNJ demonstrates its role as a university that actively contributes to fostering an inclusive sports culture and expanding the impact of physical and social well-being within society.

3.3.5 Does your university as a body provide students with access to mental health support?
UNJ demonstrates dedication and a strategic role in supporting the enhancement of students’ mental health through various services and ongoing programs. Through the Psychology and Counseling Services Center (PLPBK UNJ / plpbk.unj.ac.id), students have access to individual and group counseling, psychological assessments, and well-being programs designed to build emotional resilience and career readiness. In addition, activities such as the Career and Mental Health Fair 2024 and the National Seminar “How to Balance Academics and Achievement” serve as educational platforms that raise awareness, create opportunities for dialogue, and develop stress management strategies on campus. These efforts reflect UNJ’s commitment to fostering a supportive, healthy, and psychologically well-oriented higher education ecosystem.

3.3.7 Does your university as a body provide staff with access to mental health support?
Through the Center for Psychology and Counseling Services (PLPBK UNJ), the University consistently provides access to mental health support for staff and academics. One important initiative was the holding of the "Career and Mental Health Fair 2024" on May 18–19, 2024, at the Bung Hatta Hall, Campus A UNJ, which was attended by the UNJ Rector, Vice Rectors, Faculty Deans, and partners from industry, faculties, and mental health services, including the Ministry of Health and the Indonesian Psychological Association. PLPBK UNJ offers a variety of services, such as counseling, psychological assessments, and career development, which staff can access to support their mental well-being. Through these programs, UNJ affirms its commitment to providing comprehensive mental health support for staff and academics, in line with international standards for ensuring mental well-being in the university environment.
