LAMPUNG BANDAR - Jakarta State University (UNJ) strengthens institutional capacity in protecting intellectual property through the participation of two of its representatives in the 2026 Patent Application Description Writing (PDPP) Training, 20-21 August 2026, at the Indonesian Technocratic University, Bandar Lampung.

Two UNJ Representatives Passed the Selection

The training was organized by the Directorate of Downstreaming and Partnerships, Directorate General of Research and Development, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology in collaboration with the Indonesian Technocrat University. Participants come from various universities and have gone through a selection process.

UNJ was represented by Taryudi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., and Ria Arafiyah. His participation is part of UNJ's efforts to improve the quality of assistance to inventors, starting from identifying the core of the invention to preparing documents that are more ready to be submitted through the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) system.

From Patent Search to Document Clinic

For two days, participants received reinforcement regarding the administration system and procedures for patent applications, searching for patent information to assess the patentability of inventions, as well as methods for writing patent specification documents. Activities do not stop with theoretical explanations, but continue with independent practice, consultation clinics, perfecting descriptions, finalizing and evaluating results.

Training emphasizes the importance of consistency between title, field of invention, background, brief and complete description, claims, abstract and images. Participants are also trained to distinguish the technical substance of inventions from general benefits or ideas, formulate claims that are supported by descriptions, and maintain consistency in terms and component numbers on drawings.

Ria Arafiyah Wins Best Participant Predicate

A proud achievement was achieved by Ria Arafiyah from UNJ who received an award as one of the best participants. This achievement reflects the competency of UNJ's academic community in understanding and compiling descriptions of patent applications systematically, while strengthening UNJ's position in developing a culture of innovation and protecting intellectual property.

Follow-up for the UNJ Innovation Ecosystem

The results of the training will be followed up through internal outreach, strengthening document clinics, using quality checklists, searching for prior art, and monitoring application status. This step is directed at ensuring that UNJ inventor patent documents have adequate descriptions, realistic claims and technical consistency before being reviewed by the IPR Center and submitted to DJKI.

Strengthening this capacity will also be linked to the downstream agenda. Patents that have application potential will be mapped to enter the technology validation, partnership development, licensing or commercialization stages so that intellectual property protection does not stop at the certificate, but rather contributes to the utilization of research and innovation results.

"Participation in this training is an important asset to strengthen inventor assistance and improve the quality of patent application documents at UNJ. Invention protection must be built from identification of technical substance, formulation of claims, to consistency of descriptions and drawings."
